Privacy Policy for Canada Maps
Last updated: September 4, 2026

Canada Maps is a free navigation app. This policy explains what information the app uses, what it stores, and what it does not do.

Canada Maps has no ads, no in-app purchases, no user accounts, and does not sell, share, or track your data across other apps or websites. It has no analytics or advertising software built in at all. The sections below explain exactly what does happen with your data so you can see how that's true, rather than just asserting it.

Location data:
The app uses your device's location (only When you grant explicit permission) to show your position on the map and to calculate location-based routes and search results near you based on your proximity. This location is used briefly to answer the request you made — it is not logged, profiled, or retained beyond what's needed to return that result. Location access can be revoked at any time in your device's system settings, and the app continues to work fully without it.

What gets sent over the network, and to where:
To provide search and turn-by-turn directions, the app sends your search text or your route's start/end coordinates to the developer's own managed servers, which at this time is unfortunately Oracle. this server exists solely to answer that request (find a place, calculate a route, store map data and visuals required for the app the function, and because the developer is too broke to afford raised hetzner prices (i do run one currently - it was cheaper back then) and does not build profiles, sell data, or share it onward. No account or personal identifier is attached to these requests.

What's stored on your device:
Saved places, favorites, your parked-car marker, and your travel-mode/route preferences are stored locally on your device only. This data is never uploaded, synced to a server, or shared with anyone unless you choose to do so yourself — it stays on your phone and is retrievable only by you, unless you explicitly use the app's own "Share" action to send a specific pin to someone through your phone's normal share/messaging options. Uninstalling the app deletes this data permanently.

Voice guidance:
Spoken turn-by-turn directions use your device's own built-in text-to-speech engine. This happens entirely on-device; nothing is sent anywhere for this feature.

No ads, no purchases, no accounts:
Canada Maps does not display advertising, does not include in-app purchases or subscriptions, and does not require creating an account or providing any personal information (name, email, phone number) to use.

No third-party analytics or trackers:
The app does not include advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or any other third-party tracking software. If an optional feature that does involve a third-party service (for example, a satellite imagery layer) is added in a future version, it will be clearly presented as optional and/or this policy will be updated before that feature is turned on by default.

Open source:
The developer intends to make the app's source code publicly available in the future, so its behavior can be independently verified rather than taken on trust as well as make the app better.

Children's privacy
Canada Maps is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from children. The app does not collect personal information from any user, of any age, beyond what's described above.
